Description

The embodiment of sloth, somnula are towering humanoids whose color remind many of the night sky: a dark black-blue splattered with a million small stars. Their hair resembles voluminous or wispy clouds that constantly form and fade in a reflection of its state of mind—f lashing with lightning when angered or swirling endlessly when bored. A strand of keratin with a tapered end hangs off the tip of their horns, swinging back and forth when the somnula moves to resemble the motion of a coin on a string. Regal yet humble, a somnula’s presence is unexpectedly comforting. This is of course only a veneer to lure targets into complacency before the somnula twists their dreams into complete nightmares full of suffering or slash them across the neck as they slumber.

Capitalizing on their spittles’ tranquilizing effect, some somnula distill their spittle into an addictive drug that makes users dependent on it in order to achieve restful sleep. With this powerful resource a somnula is uniquely suited to brainwash others into serving them. To a somnula the epitome of success is getting someone else to do all their work for them while they relax, lazily watching the world fall to chaos. Unfortunately some somnulas get a little too bored as they wait, falling into a deep sleep akin to hibernation. If an enemy can avoid waking the valya during such a period of time, it may be possible to seal the somnula away with powerful wards (until something disturbs the seal and wakes them).
