Glacial Collapse
Fissures through the ice make it obvious that this section of the glacier is unstable. Suddenly an echoing creak rolls out across the ice as shadows appear underfoot and a huge section of the glacier gives way!
Airborne. Characters with an active magical effect that grants them flight or levitation, or who are flying automatically succeed. Characters with wings or some mechanical means of flight that they are not actively using may make an Acrobatics check to take off before they lose their footing, automatically succeeding at the challenge on a success.
Well-Secured. A party that secured themselves together with ropes makes a group check.
- Adventurers may make an Athletics check to slow or stop their fall.
- An Acrobatics check allows them to roll with the fall and avoid as much damage as possible.
Potential Outcomes
Critical Failure. Each adventurer that fails is funneled into a chute that ends in a 100 foot drop into a bell-shaped cave with a shallow flow of icy water at its base. They take 35 (10d6) bludgeoning damage from the fall, as well as 1d4 – 1 cold damage immediately and again each hour until they are able to warm up and get dry.
Failure. Adventurers that fail are unable to control their fall and are slammed through a section of ice, taking 10 (3d6) slashing damage. They come to a stop in the midst of a chamber containing 1d4 + 2 hibernating rime ants .
Success. The adventurers are able to catch themselves or roll with the slide to a safe stop at the bottom of the crevasse.
Critical Success. Tumbling safely to the bottom of the crevasse, the adventurers find a small shrine to some long-lost divinity buried within the ice. Roll on the Boons and Discoveries table.
