Disbelief Weakness. As an action, a creature can attempt to disbelieve in the puppet by making a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a success, the creature realizes that the puppet isn’t a physical creature, and the creature becomes immune to the puppet’s Fear Aura. The first time each creature successfully disbelieves in the puppet, the puppet takes 18 (4d8) psychic damage.

Fear Aura. When a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the puppet, it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature is frightened until the start of its next turn. On a success, the creature is immune to this puppet’s Fear Aura for 24 hours.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The puppet makes three attacks.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) psychic damage, plus 5 (1d10) psychic damage if the target is frightened.

Arresting Gaze. Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 60 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (3d6) psychic damage. If the target is not immune to fear, its speed is reduced by 10 for 1 minute. A creature’s speed can be reduced multiple times by Arresting Gaze. The target can make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw at the end of each of its turns. On a success, the target ends any speed reductions caused by Arresting Gaze.

DC 10 Some people are plagued by monsters that appear near them. This may be a psionic curse.

DC 15 “Id puppeteers” involuntarily create psionic monsters that endanger them and others. However, some learn to control these monsters, becoming evil “id puppetmasters.”
